El nuevo ballet de Marco Goecke, Nijinski, nos habla del bailarín y coreógrafo Vaslav Nijinsky. La pieza gira en torno a momentos especiales de su vida, visita «las tablas que significan el mundo» y nos confronta con la estrecha relación que se establece, con frecuencia, entre arte y locura.
Nijinsky fue uno de los artistas más extraordinarios del siglo pasado. Como bailarín interpretó roles que han mantenido su plena vigencia a lo largo de la historia de la danza y que han llegado hasta nuestros días. Sus actuaciones en los Ballets Russes de Sergei Diaghilev –sobre todo en los papeles de payaso en Petrushka (de Igor Stravinsky), de fantasma en Spectre de la rose y de esclavo de oro en Scherezade– han entrado en la memoria colectiva del mundo de la danza. El inmenso escándalo que originó en París la coreografía de Nijinsky Le sacre du printemps, en 1913, o el alto grado de erotismo de su ballet L'après-midi d'un Faune, con música de Claude Debussy, nos dan una idea del alcance visionario de su arte.
Su carrera se entreteje, indisociablemente, con su camino hacia la locura. Luchó contra la esquizofrenia, pero con el paso del tiempo se tuvo que ir alejando de la escena pública. Nijinsky perteneció a la generación que vivió ambas guerras mundiales, y como paciente de un hospital psiquiátrico fue expuesto a la amenaza del programa nazi de eutanasia, del que logró escapar junto con su esposa Romola.
Este ballet sobre el arte, la magia, el valor de la danza y también sobre el sufrimiento personal relata momentos de la vida de Vaslav Nijinsky, una vida de glamour y fama, pero también con claroscuros en su historia.
